The United Servicers Association holds their Most Professional Servicer Contest annually with winners chosen and awarded at the ASTI convention. The next Annual Service Training Institute (ASTI) will be held February 8 through February 11, 2017 at the Town and Country Resort and Convention Center in beautiful San Diego, California. This is the fifth consecutive year for the contest and it is getting bigger and better every year. Outgoing UASA Executive Director Paul MacDonald was looking for a way to showcase appliance service companies and their professionalism. This contest was created as a vehicle to do so. The United Servicers Association, as part of their mission, works to improve the appliance service industry in many ways. Helping companies portray a professional image is part of the work that we are dedicated to doing. Contestants do not need to attend the ASTI to enter or to win the contest. The contest is open to all appliance service companies (current board members are ineligible). You don’t have to be a member to enter or to win. Companies that have entered or have won previously are still eligible to enter and win again. Even if you have entered before, please try again, these contests are very close. Some have been decided by one vote!
Do you think your service business can compete for this prestigious award? How professional do you look to your customers? When I say customers, this includes your current and potential business partners and employees too. You know how the saying goes… “you can only make one first impression.” This contest is about the all-important first good impression. You have spent time and money on your marketing and now is the time to show it off. Those of you that are interested may be thinking… what’s in this for me? It is a good question. There are prizes for winners and many benefits for just entering.
- Cash: The winners of each category win a prize of $500.00. The runners up win a prize of $250.00

- Opens doors: Entrants will have exposure to industry leaders and business partners
- The exercise of entering the contest helps you examine your business from an outside perspective. Feedback from judges can help you improve your business.

Here’s how the contest works:
A panel of 5 industry-leaders are assembled as judges that consist of a manufacturer, parts supplier, warranty company, a consumer, and other business partners. Judges award 1 to 5 points in each of these 4 categories: Technician in uniform, service vehicle, company logo, and online presence. Every year a new panel of judges is selected. UASA board members cannot judge the entries. Feedback from judges will be provided to the entrants.
This year there are 3 company size divisions: 1-2 technician shop, 3-7 technician shop and the 8 plus technician shop. The top 2 scoring entries in each division will advance to the ASTI and the winner chosen by a vote of industry peers attending the conference. Winners will be presented their award at the ASTI banquet. Winners not attending will miss out on some of excitement and photo opportunities, so it’s always better to attend the ASTI in person!
The contest is very easy to enter. Just take photos of your business logo, trucks, and technicians in uniform. Email the pictures as well as a couple of screenshots of your website and social media. Send them to firstname.lastname@example.org. That is all you need to do! The deadline for the next contest is Monday January 15, 2017. Deadlines come and go fast… Get it started right away!
