I was at a convention over 30 years ago and happened to go out to dinner with Dave and some other techs. Someone at our table made a racist remark, and Dave got very upset and confronted him. I’ve respected him ever since. I remember he was called the Yellow Pages Advertising King, and I convinced him to give a presentation at a PSA convention. Dave was always willing to share his knowledge with other companies, and I will always see him as a superstar in this industry. He is very deserving of this award, and I congratulate him for the many years he has given back to this industry. I’m just grateful that I got to know him a little better through attending the USA conventions.

While Dave (Complete Appliance) and Adam (Fred’s Appliance) were direct competitors in the Greater Cleveland market, Dave always maintained a professional approach. Over the years, we had lunches together to discuss market challenges and even helped each other by sharing service call notes when we crossed paths with a particular customer. Keeping it professional and friendly with your competition says a lot about one’s character. Dave is certainly a pillar in the Cleveland area in appliance repair and is well deserving of the Lifetime Achievement Award. Congratulations, Dave!

I met Dave at the first appliance convention I attended, the “Appliance Tech Talk” Convention in Houston, TX, in 1995. Dave was manning the United Servicers Association table in the lobby. I had never heard of or known that there were any associations for appliance service. Dave shared many reasons why it was important for me to join this association, the most significant being that it would help me improve the professionalism of my company. I also attended a class Dave hosted, titled “I Can Fix Anything, But My Phone Doesn’t Ring.” It was a session about marketing your company, including using a now-extinct method—The Yellow Pages. Over the years, I have been fortunate to learn many things from Dave and continue to apply his valuable tips to this day. Dave might not realize it, but he made a lasting impression on me, as well as on so many others in this industry. Dave, I wish you and Julie well-deserved happiness in retirement.
